Printable Father’s Day card

Father’s Day is a holiday honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in most countries.

The modern Father’s Day celebration is traced to the early 20th century, when Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, wanted to honor her father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran and single parent who had raised six children alone. Dodd’s mother had died in childbirth, and her father had been killed in an accident. Dodd proposed the idea to local churches but found little support. She took her idea to the Spokane Ministerial Alliance, which supported the concept, and in 1909, Father’s Day was celebrated for the first time in Spokane.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making Father’s Day a national holiday. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson proclaimed Father’s Day a special day to honor all fathers, living and dead.

Father’s Day is also celebrated in many other countries, including Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, China, and Japan.

You can either buy one or make your own. If you choose to make your own, you can cut out a design from a piece of paper or cardstock and then write a message to your dad on the inside.

There are many different designs you can choose from, but a simple, easy-to-make card is a flag. To make a Father’s Day flag card, you will need:

  • A piece of paper or cardstock in the color of your choice
  • A ruler
  • A pencil
  • A pair of scissors
  • A glue stick
  • A red crayon or marker

Steps

  1. Start by folding your paper in half so that it is in the shape of a card.
  2. Draw a horizontal line across the middle of the card.
  3. Draw a vertical line down the middle of the card. The two lines should meet in the middle to form a cross.
  4. Cut out the card along the lines you drew.
  5. Open the card up and fold it in half again.
  6. Cut a piece of red paper or cardstock into a triangle that is the same size as the card.
  7. Glue the triangle to the front of the card.
  8. Write a message to your dad on the inside of the card.
